They've been very successful even with the H1n but it seems they just refuse to upgrade. It's 2023, they should be able to make better stuff but they're stuck with a 10+ year old lineup. The H4n IMO is too big and heavy for what it does. Their screens are low res, and the OS is sometimes slow (my H4n takes forever to recognize a SD card when it's plugged in). TBH, I don't really like Zoom's current lineup: they sell models developed a decade ago. The tradeoff could be worth it though, but I'm open to suggestions about what other recorders are out there. H2n is a bit better but the self noise is still higher than the H4n. I've considered the Zoom H1n and H2n but H1n seems to have a very high self noise. I have a Zoom H4n which I have used for this before. Some of the smallest video cameras are simple, easy-to-use devices that can be tucked away in your pocket or purse when not in use. Video cameras are a great way to capture memories and preserve them for posterity. The camera I'm using certainly can't provide this (Sony ZV-1 which seems to have a mic array to make it "pick up sound from the front", I can't really find the actual pattern, but it seems to be done in DSP). Best Buy customers often prefer the following products when searching for smallest video cameras. Record videos as avi, wmv, flv, mpg, mp4, mov and more video formats Capture video from a webcam, network IP camera or video input device (e.g., VHS recorder). If I'm filming nature videos and whatnot, I'd like to have a quality ambient baseline. My main objective is to capture ambient sounds.
